Direct Threat Care

Duration 

This intensive two-day class will be an introduction to tactical medicine and casualty extraction.

By familiarizing the student with simple anatomy and physiology, along with the most up to date treatment protocols, this course will provide the armed professional or tactical medic with the tools and tactics necessary to operate effectively in an emergency situation. Students will be expected to have already mastered weapons manipulations as this course will require live fire casualty extractions.

Prerequisite 

This course is restricted to current military or law enforcement ONLY.

Course Outline 
  • Understand medical challenges in a dynamic tactical environment
  • Orient the student to basic anatomy
  • Discuss modern techniques for bleeding control and treatment of GSW
  • Airway considerations in the tactical environment
  • Shock and fluid resuscitation
  • Casualty rescue and extraction techniques
  • Rapid Trauma Assessment
  • Fundamentals of Rescue Operations
  • Small unit tactics
Required Equipment 
  • Duty Rifle w/ mag holders; UTM mags will be provided
  • UTM Pistol w/ 3 magazines and holders will be provided
  • Duty gear to include body armor
  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
  • Hearing protection
  • Unit specific IFAK, litters and medical components
  • Optional gear - chest rig/plate carrier, ballistic helmet, battle belt
Ammo 
  • Estimated round count: 200 rounds rifle and 200 rounds pistol UTM
  • Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping facility only
