Low Light Pistol Instructor

Duration 

Approximately 69% of deadly force encounters in the US occur in reduced light environments. The objective of this course is for students to develop the skills and confidence required to instruct on prevailing with a weapon system in a reduced light environment. 

Upon completion of this course, student instructors will learn how to effectively and safely engage targets in a diminished light environment using the most current techniques available today. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an instructor certification valid for three years in the use and instruction of low-light techniques in the law enforcement environment.

Prerequisite 

This course is restricted to armed professionals only. Documented completion of a basic firearms instructor course is required.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Course Outline 
  • Why low light training is important
  • Selection of low light equipment
  • The tactical light as a control tool
  • Employing a handheld flashlight with a pistol
  • Employing a handheld flashlight with a long gun
  • Gun & light together techniques
  • Gun and light separated techniques
  • Engaging targets while using a handheld flashlight
  • Using cover in conjunction with a light
  • Moving/shooting with a light
  • Instructing and teaching others in these techniques


In order to receive a certificate of completion, students will be required to attend 16 hours of training and demonstrate safe gun handling in a limited visibility environment. Student will demonstrate proper use of a flashlight in a limited visibility environment utilizing both hand-held and weapons mounted lighting in a variety of static and dynamic situations.

  • Duty handgun and rig
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Duty flashlight and holster
  • If you utilize pistol mounted lights please bring that as well

Tuition includes free loan of firearms, holsters, safety glasses and hearing protection.

Ammo 
  • Estimated round count: 400 rounds pistol
  • For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required
  • Ammunition is available for purchase at the Epping facility only
