Night Vision Operator

Duration 

As a law enforcement officer, SWAT operator, or military member, one must be prepared to operate in hours of limited visibility and total darkness.

It’s a fact that most deadly force encounters occur in hours of darkness. Because of this, the SIG SAUER Academy, in conjunction with N-Vision Optics, designed a Night Vision Operator course that is comprehensive and addresses all aspects of nighttime operation. This course introduces the capabilities of night vision that supplement existing tactics, techniques, and procedures. This is an introductory course designed to quickly showcase the entire potential of night vision!

Prerequisite 

This course is restricted to current military or law enforcement. Advanced Defensive Rifle or equivalent is mandatory. Proof of completion must be submitted during registration to sigsaueracademy@sigsauer.com or uploaded with credentials.

Course Outline 

Classroom Discussion:

  • Image intensifications vs. thermal vision
  • Night Vision science
  • Night Vision optic anatomy, operation, mounting, & procurement options
  • Infrared devices (Illuminators, lasers, and accessories)
  • Mounting and zeroing process for infrared optics

Range Portion:

  • Moving and navigating with Night Vision
  • Static shooting positions out to 50m using both Infrared Devices and red dot optics
  • Total darkness tactical and bolt lock reloads
  • Total darkness basic malfunctions
  • Total darkness positional shooting
  • Total darkness barricade & bilateral shooting
  • Total darkness target to target transitions
Required Equipment 
  • Suitable Range clothing for both indoor and outdoor use
  • Headlamp or handheld white light (NOT weapons mounted)
  • Rifle with sling and optic
    • *Rifle must be able to mount an infrared device*
  • Rifle magazine pouch / battle belt
  • 3 rifle magazines
  • Eye and ear pro
  • Night vision device (PVS-14, 15, 31, etc)
  • Helmet & NODs mount


(All night vision equipment and helmets are available to borrow at the Epping, NH location)

  • N-Vision Optics PVS-14 Night Vision
  • Team Wendy Helmets
  • Wilcox Night Vision Mounts
  • DBAL/PEQ15 Infrared Illuminators / Lasers
  • Various other Infrared accessories
Ammo 
  • Estimated round count: 300 rounds rifle
  • For Epping, NH courses, non-toxic, non-jacketed FRANGIBLE ammunition may be required
  • Ammunition is available for purchase from the Epping facility only
